Meet Dr. Root
Matthew Root, DO, is the founder of Innovative Pain and Spine Center in Toluca Lake, located in the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. With dual board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as pain medicine, Dr. Root takes an integrative approach that incorporates each patient’s personal goals. He specializes in electrodiagnostic studies to diagnose radiculopathies (pinched nerves) and neuropathies (damaged nerves).
After graduating with honors with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, Dr. Root obtained his medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. He then completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a US News & World Report top-ranked hospital in rehabilitation medicine and one of the country’s Model Spinal Cord Injury Centers.
Dr. Root went on to complete his fellowship training in Santa Barbara, specializing in interventional pain and spine procedures. After finishing his fellowship, he stayed on as faculty and assistant director of their fellowship program, practicing and teaching musculoskeletal medicine, ultrasound-guided peripheral injections, and fluoroscopic-guided spine procedures.
Dr. Root has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Top Doctor award. He has published in nationally recognized medical journals in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation and presented his research at national meetings, including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He’s a fellow of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and Rehabilitation and is affiliated with Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Northridge Hospital Medical Center, and Glendale Memorial Hospital.
